The pictures show a pair of AFOs which were made for an 18 years old young man with CP, having severe muscular atrophy.   He uses the orthoses in a standing frame for his daily exercise at school.   As his feet are severely deformed, lamination of the orthoses was selected as the optimal method of fabrication to maintain a good fit.   A silicone gel liner was first made by the usual lamination technique, pouring liquid silicone instead of resin.   A Nyglass hard shell was laminated outside the liner.   Since the patient likes fancy colour, a layer of Lycra cloth, usually for swimming suits, was used on the top layer of the hard shell.   As the orthoses are solely for standing indoors, I directly built up the bottom of the AFO with PE hard foam and attached sole material to prevent slipping.
